G4TV is sending one lucky super-fan to E3 to be a roving reporter at the biggest video game event of the year. The contestant who sends in the best five-minute video explaining why they should go will "get to take a camera crew on the conference floor, talk to developers, play the newest games, and tell G4tv.com viewers at home what you think of the developments in the gaming industry." Faithful service to the fans or cost-cutting measure spurred by lack of available hosts? You decide!
Unfortunately, I was in a plane when EA premiered their 60-second video of Madden 2006 at the NFL Draft on Saturday. My cousin assures me it looked "really amazing" though. Anyone else have any better adjectives? Leave a comment below.

You're entering, right?
ReplyDeleteDo you think, "I should be your roving reporter because (excepting Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb) you clearly don't have anyone left on your staff competant for reviewing games and discussing the industry after buying out a far superior network then urinating on the real talent," would go over well?
ReplyDeleteNot that I'm bitter...
No, I am not entering. First of all, anyone who has seen my face knows that it is more suited to radio, or print, or online, or anything that doesn't involve it being seen. Secondly, I've already arranged to attend the show with GameMethod.com, which has generously offered to get me credentials and put me up in L.A. in exchange for help with their coverage.
ReplyDeleteIs it weird that I'm taking vacation time from my day job to go to E3 and... do more work? Discuss!
EA ad was all CGI rendering effects no actual gameplay footage.
ReplyDeleteThe headline is dead on, though. Anybody *can* report from the floor. What's on display, what you think of it, where are the hottest booth decorations, etc. You don't need a journalist for this; a fanboy works just fine.
ReplyDeleteThe trick comes in determining what (if anything) it all means. What is the current trend? Whose stock is going up? Which developers are the up and comers? This sort of thing takes a little more than just casual acquaintance with a gamepad.
But just a little more.

ReplyDeleteI was once a devoted fan of techtv, back when my cable service didn't offer G4, but I had heard of G4 from EGM and coworkers that talked about it. From what I heard, you'd think G4 was a televised haven of sorts for hardcore gamers. When G4 bought techtv I was stoked.. but after a while I realized that G4 didnt merge with techtv as much as it replaced it. Almost all the old shows/talent left over from the good ol' days have been phased out and now everytime I turn on G4, "Arena" or some other lame ploy to capitlize on ppl's fanatical interest in video games with low quality shows with annoying talking heads that are clearly hired on appearance rather than knowledge of the industry/product.
G4 is effin whack
X-play's Adam and Morgan or maybe Kevin Pereira from attack of the show are really the only ones they would be able to get to go to E3 since they are the only ones qualified on the channel to go. I'm sure they will at least send X-play there since X-play has been there since the show started a few years back. And since i'm sure Kevin will be forced to sit it out so he can throw together other packages for AotS they will probably use what the winning fan tapes there as a part of AotS.
ReplyDeleteI leave Tommy Tallarico and Victor Lucas out of this loop cuase they seem to work outside of the G4 chain, and I'm sure that Victor is the head of Greedy productions that produces both electric playground and judgement day and only have a contract with G4 to air their stuff.
I also leave G4tv.com out of it because they only seem to sit at their desks and whine about how not ever game has mulitiplayer, eben it it's a strictly one player set up and how you should only play original games and not play "un-innovative games" (i quotation that cause i feel they are wrong) like Doom 3.. they piss me off, i can't watch that show. any way, i'm pretty sure they wont move to cover E3.
I know this is off topic, but this last post reminded me of this.
ReplyDeleteWhat was the videogame show that had a fat guy and a skinny guy drinking Sobe? I think the show was on TBS?
